From print to digital.
Journalism in the digital world.
I started in newspapers in college. Working as a stringer for the Athens News taught me so much about deadlines, how to handle editorial criticism and overcome and minimize mistakes. I am always appreciative of longtime editor Terry Smith for enduring the pain of having to read those early copies of mine. Forever indebted.
Those experiences prepared me for my first full-time newspaper gig at a newspaper in Florida. The daily grind of pumping out content matched with the expectation of perfection helped build, stretch and grow.
Then I went to digital, working as a content editor at an NPR/PBS station in Ohio. In this capacity I learned an entirely different approach to journalism. From incorporating social media and breaking online news to how to handle corrections, the digital journalism world used everything I had learned in newspapers and took it to the next level. I’m an advocate for both.
Photos in water.
A life in water.
Living in Hawai’i, I am always in the water.
That is why a part of my evolution in photography has been to become a better water and underwater photographer.
The water is so fluid and unpredictable, and has challenged me during photoshoots. Trying to balance the gear along with making your subject comfortable is quite the endeavor!
I have zero gear to use underwater by the way, but nevertheless I prevail.
How do you photograph in water? What have your experiences been? Please share.
